Nancy is an Excellent Example of the Prodigal Son (feminine wild side, the id)
Published on Jul 13, 2020
The Prodigal Son is an allegorical Christian tale that describes a son leaving the roost to live a wild and feral life, returning to his father in the end. The father goes to sacrifice the prized calf in celebration and the mature son protests, saying how obedient and loyal he was the entire time while the wild brother was rebellious. Moral of the story is that each one of us has a wild side that we have to explore and understand so that we come to find out who we are: know thyself.
Prodigal Son is essentially the story of Sigmund Freud's id. If you studied Kabbalah, you know the Qlipphoth is the dark, wild side of being and is what we discover to get awakening. We have to understand ourselves in order to know ourselves. The ten divinations in the Qlipphoth are called shells, peels, or husks, shadows of the ten emanations of the Sefirot. This is the concept of light and dark where the sun is the light, represented as the Sefirot, and the moon is the dark, reflection or shadow of the light, represented as the Qlipphoth. Masculine is considered the sun, source of electricity (think of solar electricity), and feminine is considered the moon, source of magnetism, which is why we get the motion of the tides. Tides are weakest during quarter moons.

Sarah (Robin Tunney) defeats Nancy (Fairuza Balk) with her magic.
After killing her mother in childbirth, growing up in San Francisco with her father and stepmother, attempting suicide, and moving to Los Angeles, Sarah (Robin Tunney) makes a brief stab at popularity at her new Catholic high school. Ostracized due to the untrue kiss-and-tell tales of football player Chris (Skeet Ulrich), Sarah reluctantly befriends a trio of self-styled outsiders: the horribly scarred Bonnie (Neve Campbell), the trailer-trash Nancy (Fairuza Balk), and Rochelle (Rachel True), a frequent victim of anti-black prejudice at the hands of Laura Lizzie (former Marcia Brady and future Mrs. Ben Stiller, Christine Taylor). After exhibiting latent telekenitic powers in front of Bonnie, Sarah learns that her three new friends have chosen her as their "fourth corner," the final member of their supernatural coven. Using tools stolen from a local incense-and-candle-filled boutique for practitioners of magic, the quartet summons the power of Manon, a primitive deity, to exact revenge on their tormentors and transform their lives. Drunk with power, they watch their spells get out of control, and the new coven soon realizes that with magic, "whatever you give comes back three-fold." This mid-'90s horror flick scored first place at the box office its opening weekend despite its then-unknown cast and modest budget. TV star Neve Campbell, who didn't even receive top billing, would go on to become the '90s answer to '70s horror queen Jamie Lee Curtis in the Scream franchise.
