On Jan 19 2021, Frankie Gotz calls up Hamilton Police station to ask them if the Ontario Reopening Act and the Emergency Management & Civil Protection Act are in affect. The officers claims that it is. Gotz then reminds him of section 7.0.2(1) which states that even under states of emergency the police cannot infringe the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms . The officer reminds Gotz that they don't make the laws they just enforce them and Gotz reminds him of their oath they took to uphold the Charter of Rights. The conversation ends well with the officer stating it's been a hard time on cops too (kind of hinting some don't want to enforce it) and Gotz kindly says he understands and tells the officer that he loves him before they both hang up the phone.
